Jack originally came to work with us on an internship between his second and third year of university. I was immediately struck by his enthusiasm, eagerness to learn and his ability to pick things up extremely quickly. Despite training in cyber security, he already had a good grasp of web development and its fundamental programming languages. He worked through a number of training tasks, utilising the Vue.js and Nuxt.js frameworks to build a number of small web applications. He breezed through this work so quickly that we were often having to find extra work for him beyond the constraints of the internship programme!
Following the completion of the internship, we stayed in touch while Jack completed his degree, and were so delighted with his performance we were able to offer him a Junior Developer role upon completion of his course.
Jack embraced this role with the same enthusiasm he showed during his internship, adjusting well to the commercial world and agency life. Jack contributed to a number of internal projects initially, and then very quickly moved on to delivering client-facing work, including HTML emails for major clients with a large distribution. He has also contributed in a very meaningful way to some key internal processes, including our QA process, which he helped to shape alongside the Head of Development. Jack has expanded his full-stack skills hugely since being with us, particularly in Statamic, a new framework for the team, which Jack picked up very quickly and was able to complete some of the very first client-facing work the team produced using this.
In addition to his web development skills, Jack has brought a whole new skillset to the team with his cyber security training. With his knowledge of typical attacks and how to detect and mitigate them, we've been able to fix some fairly major security issues in our server infrastructure. As cyber is such a fast-moving area, it's been invaluable to have someone on the team with up-to-date knowledge of this area.
Overall, I would highly recommend Jack for any Junior Developer or Junior Cyber Specialist role. He is an incredibly fast-learner, mature in his attitude to work, a fantastic communicator (particularly as he worked for us in a fully-remote capacity, which is not easy), and just a brilliant assets to any team. Jack has been a real joy to work with and I know he will bring a huge range of skills, enthusiasm and professionalism to any role he takes in the future.

Jack joined our team as a Junior Developer following graduation from his Bachelor of Science with Honours in Cybersecurity.
Although my day-to-day interactions with Jack were limited, the work we did collaborate on allowed Jack's cybersecurity experience to shine, and left a good impression with me and the team.
During his time with us, Jack helped us develop our own vulnerability scanning solution, allowing us to cost-effectively monitor our websites for common security risks. We were also able to leverage Jacks experience when it came to incident responses, processing our log files to assist with identifying possible sources and attack vectors, to help inform how we improve our posture.
Jack and I had also been exploring ways to incorporate his expertise into our development process, through adding security scanning tooling into our local development process, and our build pipelines. Regrettably though, we did not have a chance to fully implement this work.
Outside of regular projects, Jack was always willing to support the wider team with their projects, and took proactive steps to share insights with colleagues, particularly around our cybersecurity posture.
I am confident that Jack will shine in any future role where he can continue to lean into his cybersecurity knowledge, and collaborate with development teams.

I really admire Jack Hughes. In our short time together he demonstrated the sort of energy and eagerness you might expect but tempered by maturity, sensitivity and sencerity. These qualities should not be underestimated during what will be a period of great change for techies of all kinds.
I’m disappointed we didn’t get to work together much longer but I’m optimistic to see where Jack’s career takes him. To whoever might be considering hiring him take this as my wholehearted recommendation. Jack has considerable potential and will be a valuable member of your team for so many reasons.

Rebecca Hughes Dyslexia Services commissioned Jack to create a new website for us. He was professional throughout and really listened to what we wanted. He communicated well and kept us up to date with how it was progressing. He has been on-hand to sort any glitches and has done this really quickly. Highly recommended.

Jack's advice on using AI to inform my Geography planning saved me time and energy trawling through the interent for the resources I required. I was able to source both text and good quality images which were age appropriate for my Year 2 class. It has alsos given me the confidence to reach out to AI in many others areas of my life - thank you Jack!

AI is an invaluable resource for teachers, helping us to save time when lesson planning and creating resources. It's a brilliant tool spark new ideas, especially when you're feeling unsure (or tired at the end of a long day!) as well as making the planning process more efficient and innovative.
